Top 5 M/M Romance books

Hey everyone,

In my recent March Wrap Up it became clear that I read a lot of M/M. Seriously, it made up around 50% of the books I read this month! Therefore I thought it was about time I did a post about one of my favourite Romance sub-genres. After all I’ve been reading and loving M/M for about five years now and over that time I’ve sample the great, the good, the bad and the down-right kinky this sub-genre has to offer.

I found it extremely difficult narrowing down this list to just five books, and clearly this is all personal preference, but below are my Top 5 M/M Romance book recommendations. Whether your new to the genre, and old veteran or an up-and-coming connoisseur I hope this list has a little something for everyone.

Stuff by Josephine Myles

Tobias “Mas” Maslin doesn’t need much. A place of his own, weekends of clubbing, a rich boyfriend for love and support. Too bad his latest sugar daddy candidate turns out to be married with kids. Mas wants to be special, not someone’s dirty little secret.

When he loses his job and his flat on the same day, his worlds starts unraveling…until he stumbles across a vintage clothing shop. Now to convince the reclusive, eccentric owner he’s in dire need of a salesman.

Perry Cavendish-Fiennes set up Cabbages and Kinks solely to annoy his controlling father. Truth be told, he’d rather spend every spare moment on his true passion, art. When Mas comes flaming into his life talking nineteen to the dozen, he finds himself offering him a job and a place to live.

He should have listened to his instincts. The shop is already financially on the brink, and Mas’s flirting makes him feel things he’s never felt for a man. Yet Mas seems convinced they can make a go of it—in the shop, and together.

If you love quirky characters, charming Britishisms and general mayhem then Stuff is the M/M for you! An opposites attract story, with a slight GFY Stuff is full of Josephine Myles usual combination of heartfelt emotion, witty dialogue and sweet yet sexy romance. Perry and Tobias personalities although so different work so well together; Tobias brings Perry out of his self-imbosed hermit lifestyle and Perry provides Tobias with stability and self-believe.

The Reluctant Berserker by Alex Beecroft

Wulfstan, a noble and fearsome Saxon warrior, has spent most of his life hiding the fact that he would love to be cherished by someone stronger than himself. Not some slight, beautiful nobody of a harper who pushes him up against a wall and kisses him.

In the aftermath, Wulfstan isn’t sure what he regrets most—that he only punched the churl in the face, or that he really wanted to give in.

Leofgar is determined to prove he’s as much of a man as any Saxon. But now he’s got a bigger problem than a bloody nose. The lord who’s given him shelter from the killing cold is eyeing him like a wolf eyes a wounded hare.

When Wulfstan accidentally kills a friend who is about to blurt his secret, he flees in panic and meets Leofgar, who is on the run from his lord’s lust. Together, pursued by a mother’s curse, they battle guilt, outlaws, and the powers of the underworld, armed only with music…and love that must overcome murderous shame to survive.

I loved the historical accuracy of this story. The depictions of the Viking Culture where beautiful to read about. I also loved how Alex Beecroft wove in the concept of masculinity, and Wulfstan’s conflict between his feelings for Leofgar and his duty as a warrior. This is a slow build story and has low level of sexual content. One of the best books I read in 2014.

My Roommates a Jock? Well, Crap! by Wade Kelly

It's easy to become cynical when life never goes your way.

Cole Reid has been a social recluse since he was fifteen, when he was outed by his high school baseball team. Since then, his obsessive-compulsive behavior and sarcastic nature have driven away most of the population, and everyone else hates him because he's gay. As he sees it, he's bound to repulse any prospective friends, let alone boyfriends, so why bother?

By the time Cole enters college, he's become an anal-retentive loner—but it's not a problem until his roommate graduates and the housing department assigns Ellis Montgomery to move in with Cole. Ellis is messy, gorgeous, straight, and worst of all, a "jock"!

During a school year filled with frat buddies, camping expeditions, and meddling parents, Cole and Ellis develop a friendship that turns Cole's glass-half-empty outlook on its head. There must be more to Ellis than a fun-loving jock—and maybe Cole's reawakening libido has rekindled his hope for more than camaraderie.

The sarcasm in this book was delicious. If you dont like sarcasm, or slightly whiny heroes than avoid, but if like me you LOVE them then Cole could be your new favourite. Hes sarcastic, rude, insecure, socially awkward, kind and understanding. I loved how Ellis and Cole challenged each others preconceptions, and proved that first impressions arent always right.

Room at the Top by Jane Davitt & Alexa Snow

Austin and Jay want a Dom in their lives, but not a third person in their bed. When their Dom moves away, replacing him turns out to be trickier than they’d thought and the two of them are getting desperate. Enter Liam, a friend of their former Dom, deliciously sexy and stern, ready to spank them into shape – and straight.

It’s all going so well, but can Liam separate his growing attraction to his two young subs from what they do during their sessions? And can Austin and Jay handle the discovery that Liam means more to them than he was ever supposed to?

With Austin’s younger sister April ready to do anything she can to make life difficult for the three men, is it going to be possible for Austin and Jay to prove to Liam that there’s room in their life – and their bed – for him?

I thought this was a fantastic depiction of a menage trios and BDSM relationship. It was so heartfelt and full of emotion as Austin, Jay and Liam try and navigation the world of three-way  and a BDSM relationship. Also the sex scenes are off the wall steamy! I loved all the characters and quickly devoured by Room At The Top and its follow-up novel Room On The Edge.

Axel’s Pup by Kim Dare

As the landlord of The Dragon’s Lair and leader of The Black Dragons Motorcycle Club, Axel Carmichael has seen it all and done it all. He’s a respected and experienced dom. Nothing shocks him any more, and nobody catches him off guard.

When Bayden rides up to The Dragon’s Lair on a bike worth more than most men earn in a year, and immediately demonstrates that he has far more attitude than sense, it’s easy for Axel to write him off as a silly little rich boy who’s about to get himself killed.

But, there’s more to Bayden than meets the eye. He’s no silly little boy, rich or otherwise, and werewolves aren’t easy to kill.

Axel’s Pup was simply incredible. A paranormal BDSM romance between a wolf and a human, which mainly focused on the D/s side of BDSM. I loved the world Kim Dare created and how she showed the cultural differences between wolves and humans through the smallest acts. This story revolves around Bayden learning to trust and respect both himself and Axel. Highly recommend!

Also does anyone else think all these covers are beautiful?!

Happy reading everyone and see you next time!
